After 17 years growing, Myledy has become a top expert on LED Strip lights and LED Profiles, while the related accessories. We are not only to produce high quality LED strips also be pleasure to answer any questions of the strip lights.
Here are FQAs about LED STRIPS you could find, and easy to get feedback from our professional engineers for further information or customized projects.
The basic knowledge of LED strip light
What LED SMD types are available now?
Myledy has 2835 SMD, 3528 SMD, 5050 SMD, 2110 SMD, 3014 SMD, 5730 SMD, 3838 SMD and 2216 SMD LEDs. Due to the higher light efficiency and better heat dissipation of 2835SMD, 3528SMD has been gradually replaced.
What are lumens (lm)?
Lumen is the measurement of brightness as perceived to the human eyes. It's used for LED lights. Because of incandescent lighting, we are all accustomed to using watts to measure the brightness of light. Today, we use lumen. Lumen is the most important variable when choosing which LED strip light you need to look at. Make sure you compare lumen output between LED strip lights before
What is luminous efficacy?

How about the Voltage of LED strip light?
Low-voltage LED strip lights usually use DC24v and DC12v voltages, you can choose according to your installation requirement.
For LED tape, the voltage drop of 24v should be less than 12v.
What are DC voltage and AC voltage?
DC =Direct Current.
Most LED strips on the market use low-voltage DC. A transformer or low-voltage battery is often required to step-down the AC voltage to a suitable level for the LED strips, which is normally 12V or 24V DC.
AC = Alternating Current.
This is the electricity that is used in most homes and commercial spaces. It’s often referred to as line voltage and number differs from country to country. US line voltage is typically 90V-220V, whereas it often averages higher in Europe.
Do you need Constant Current or Constant Voltage for the LED tape?
Most of LED strip lights require constant voltage. A constant voltage power supply is an electrical power source that regulates voltage to a constant level. In the case of super long Myledy LED strips, we make constant current to avoid voltage drop and keep the brightness.
Do longer length of LED strips drop brightness?
In DC circuits, voltage gradually drops as it travels along through a length of wire (or an LED strip light). So, with every foot of wire, the available voltage to each foot gradually decreases along the length of wire. This can lead to having one end of your strip lights being brighter than the other end.
Another thing that can cause a drop is the distance between the power source and LEDs. Use an appropriately-sized wire to avoid voltage drop, and consult an electrician for further advice. To learn more about voltage drop, you can contact our customer service for help.
What is CCT(Correlated Color Temperature)?
White light can be quantified by referring to its CCT. It is measured in Kelvins (K). Most white lights fall in a spectrum between 1800K and 6500K. When getting close to 3000K, the light is noticeably warmer. On the other end of the spectrum, the lights have a blue-ish tint and cooler tone when nearing 6500K.
Choosing the correct color temperature lights for your project is very important, and as important as the brightness you choose. Consider the look and feel you want your project to have. Myledy LED strip can get 1800K to 7000K.
What is CRI?
CRI = Color Rendering Index.
It is the measurement of how colors look under a light source when compared with sunlight. Having information on the CRI of a LED strip light is important because you want to make sure that the colors are being accurately represented by the light source. CRI is measured on a scale from 0-100. A CRI of 80+ is the industry-standard for most applications while a CRI of 90+ tends to be necessary for situations that need color accuracy.
What is Ra?
Technically, Ra is just a symbol in the formulae for general CRI calculations, but has become widely used as a synonym for general CRI. In other words, Ra is also the average value of R1 through R8.
What is color consistency?
The color consistency of LED strip lights refers to the LEDs in one tape and the CCT in different batches of LED products. It's measured by MacAdam Ellipses or SDCM.
Good quality LED strip lighting with accurate color consistency is essential for the medical, commercial, and industrial sectors.
How about the lifespan of LED strip light?
Myledy LED strip lights have been rigorously tested and have an expected lifespan of 50,000 hours before dropping to 70% luminosity. This means that if you were to use your lights 12 hours a day, every day, the lights would be expected to last longer than 10 years. Even after that time has elapsed, the lights will maintain a brightness of 70%. Higher-output strips require a heat sink to reach the expected lifespan.
What is LM-80?
LM-80 -- measures the maintenance of the luminous flux for a group of electroluminescent diodes (LED) at various operating temperatures. Normally testing over the course of a minimum of 6,000 hours (that a testing period of 10,000 hours is advisable); measurements are taken at 1,000-hour intervals. LM80 test report can offer the information of the lifespan (or maintenance of luminous flux) of LED strip light.
What is LM-79?
LM-79 -- measures the electrical and photometric properties of LED products. This process includes luminous flux, electrical power, efficiency, chromaticity as well as the diffusion of luminous intensity. Results of all five metric measurements displayed on a lighting product label originate from test results based on the LM-79 record.
What’s the operating temperature of LED strips?
The temperature will vary from strip to strip. Our strips are designed to be underpowered at the component levels to keep the strip cooler than its maximum operating thresholds. We have designed the LED strips to be able to operate in a temperature range of -30ºC and 70ºC. When the LEDs are ran it higher ambient temperatures above 40ºC, it is recommended to use a heat sink to dissipate the heat away from the LED strip.
How flexible are the LED strip lights?
Our LED strip lights are as flexible as a steel tape measure. They can bend up or down but not on its horizontal axis (left or right), and cannot be folded.
